You know it’s 2020 when an oversize bottle of champagne is delivered to the office as part of a virtual awards ceremony. What was the virtual occasion? YellowDog was celebrating its Print Excellence Award wins, presented by the WSPA (Western States Printing Alliance). The WSPA represents the commercial print industry of Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and Wyoming.
People’s Choice: ‘Hug Your Dog’ Mural
Give the people what they want: large-scale dog hugs. We’re so proud of our Hug Your Dog mural, a large-format blowup of original art by local Denver artist Robin Gates. This won the “People’s Choice” category based on votes from the wider WSPA community (as opposed to the panel of judges).
From the award announcement:
“For their office entryway, YellowDog created a large scale mural of an image by Colorado artist, Robin Gates. The style, color, and affection in the art captures YellowDog’s brand ethos. Scaling the original print to 220″ wide by 185″ tall, it covers a full wall and overlaps into a glass-walled conference room. It was printed with 6c inks on Mojave 4 mil wall graphic removable vinyl.”
Gold Award, Large/Grand Format Print: ‘Hug Your Dog’ Mural
The ‘Hug Your Dog’ mural also took ‘best in category’ for Large/Grand Format Print.
Silver Award, Large/Grand Format Print: ‘Curiosity Community Creativity’ Mural
Our office’s second mural, called ‘Curiosity Community Creativity’ was done entirely in-house. Our graphic designer Morgan illustrated the image to capture YellowDog’s three core values (and our three core office dogs).
Honorable Mention: ‘Mile High City’ art deco posters
By the way, did we mention our Mile High City poster won honorable mention in the poster/art reproduction category? This poster, also designed in-house by Morgan, showcases the capabilities of our Xerox Iridesse specialty ink printer. At our grand reopening party in 2019, guests got to choose between four different metallic color combinations and bring home a poster as a party favor.
Competitive streak
Thank you to our peers in the industry for showing up with such stiff competition. You’re keeping us on our toes! We were thrilled to receive regional recognition for our print and design capabilities (and to receive another trophy to add to our awards collection). You can bet your dog treats we’ll be back next year with more print pieces and competitive spirit. Fingers crossed for an in-person awards ceremony in 2021!
