Catalog printing FAQ
What types of catalog binding does YellowDog offer?
Answer: We offer a variety of professional binding styles, including:
- Saddle stitch: Pages folded and stapled at the spine. Great for smaller booklets (8–64 pages).
- Square back saddle stitch: Similar to saddle stitch, but with a squared-off spine for a more polished appearance.
- Perfect bound: Pages are glued at the spine, like a paperback book. Ideal for 60+ pages.
- Wire-o bound: Metal wire loops bind the pages. Lays flat when open—great for manuals and workbooks.
- Spiral bound: A durable plastic coil binding that also lies flat. Common for training guides and notebooks. We can also provide clear plastic covers and black acetate backs for spiral or Wire-o-bound catalogs for extra durability and a polished finish.
What size catalogs can you print?
We can print catalogs in just about any size. Common sizes include:
- 8.5″ x 11″ (standard)
- 5.5″ x 8.5″ (half-size)
- 6″ x 9″, 8″ x 8″, and other custom dimensions Our maximum sheet size is 12″ x 25″ with bleed, which allows for oversized or uniquely shaped projects. Let us know what you have in mind and we’ll help recommend the best fit.
What paper options are available?
YellowDog offers a wide range of paper options, including:
- Matte or gloss text stock for interior pages (typically 70# or 100#)
- Matte, gloss, or uncoated cover stock (usually 80# or 100#) Want something with extra flair? Ask us about soft-touch lamination, metallic inks, or spot gloss finishes for your cover.
How should I prepare my file for catalog printing?
Submit your artwork as a multi-page PDF in page order (not printer spreads). Include:
- 0.125″ bleed on all sides
- Safe margins of at least 0.25″
- Outlined fonts and high-res images (300 DPI or higher) If you’re unsure, we’re happy to review your file before printing to make sure everything’s good to go.
What’s the turnaround time for catalogs?
Turnaround time depends on the page count, binding type, and finishing options. Most standard saddle-stitched catalogs are ready in 5–7 business days, while specialty finishes may take 7–10 business days. Perfect-bound books in particular may take up to 2 weeks to allow time for both printing and binding. We’ll confirm timelines when we review your project.
Is there a minimum order for catalogs?
For most binding types, there’s no strict minimum quantity—we’re happy to print short runs. However, perfect-bound catalogs have a setup fee starting at $425, which makes ordering a single copy cost-prohibitive. If you’re printing fewer than 100 catalogs, we recommend exploring saddle stitch, square back, Wire-o, or spiral binding for a more budget-friendly option.
