Position summary
We’re looking for a Digital Prepress Specialist to support our production team by accurately evaluating, updating, troubleshooting, and proofing customer-supplied artwork to ensure files are print-ready and meet production specifications. This role requires strong technical expertise in print production workflows, including file setup, color conversion, bleed and sizing adjustments, die lines, imposition, step-and-repeat, specialty inks, booklets, perfect-bound book covers, envelopes, tabs, and mail merge. The Prepress Specialist will utilize software and tools such as Adobe Acrobat, Enfocus PitStop Pro, and Quite Imposing to provide precise file output for subsequent processing. They will work closely with the Account Manager team to prepare files for both in-house production and outsource partners, while maintaining organized files, accurate job specifications, and efficient workflows.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in print production, excellent problem-solving skills, speed and accuracy, and an exceptional attention to detail and quality control.
The Digital Printing Prepress Specialist position at YellowDog is a full-time position. Typical hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. As the needs of the business change, so may the hours required. This position is required to be in the office for their work schedule.
Detailed job description
Responsibilities
- Review job sheets against provided art to verify image sizing, pages, folds, color settings to ensure accurate job processing.
- Review customer-provided work, troubleshoot and provide feedback to Account Managers to relay to their customers.
- Perform digital prepress functions including: preflight incoming jobs; check for appropriate color format, fonts, and graphics for quality and correct formats; adjust and manipulate files including photo adjustment/enhancement, color conversion (RGB to CMYK) and export files using Adobe Creative Suite.
- Utilize Pitstop to preflight and fix files and update and maintain Pitstop actions.
- Determine page layout, accounting for folds, trims, and bleeds, and add crop marks and bleed where needed.
- Utilize YellowDog-standard file naming conventions to send press-ready documents to the department’s Fiery servers.
- Collaborate with print specialists to produce jobs.
- Order paper and communicate with the production team on deliveries.
- Serve as a technical resource for digital printing and communicate with Account Managers on technical issues as needed.
- Quality check responsibilities.
- Offer support to production as needed and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong preflight, design, and layout skills.
- Understands print production processes, color management, file preparation, and prepress workflows.
- Experience working with software including Adobe Creative Suite, Fiery Command WorkStation, Enfocus PitStop Pro, and Quite Imposing.
- Proficient in office and business applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs, Gmail, Google Drive, and DocketManager.
- Excellent organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while meeting established deadlines.
- Self-motivated and resourceful, with the ability to work independently and with minimal oversight.
- Effective and accurate verbal and written communication skills.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude toward daily work, clients, and co-workers.

- Proficient in office applications (i.e., Google Workspace) and scheduling/production management systems (i.e., DocketManager), or similar software.
- Must love dogs.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on computers.
- Professional office with moderate noise levels.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds at times.
- Occasional paper cut may be part of the job.
Education
- High school diploma or associate’s degree.
- 3+ years of relevant prepress experience or in a related field.
- Knowledge of the printing industry is preferred.
