Pawprint Chats is a series where we chat with our friends, clients, and peers in our local Colorado community. It’s a chance to check in and see how everyone’s doing, in business and in life.
Today we’re talking to Erin Brenner, Rae Thomas, and Brogan Rossi, founders and owners of Recovery Box. YellowDog has the pleasure of printing some of this remarkable box’s contents.
YellowDog: Hello! Give us the “elevator pitch” version of what your business does.
Erin, Rae, and Brogan: The Recovery Box creates tangible tools for recovery journeys of all kinds. Through a creative, authentic, and research-based approach we put therapeutic tools in the hands of those searching for recovery.
YD: What has been your biggest win in the past year?
E, R, and B: Getting our feelings wheels into a large public school district!
YD: This past year has been a learning experience for everyone. Anything you’ve learned about your business during a pandemic?
E, R, and B: We are adaptable and can adapt relatively quickly too! While it’s been a true challenge this year it has made us realize that we are here to stay — not even a pandemic can take us away from our mission.
YD: What has been one of your proudest moments as a local business owner?
E, R, and B: Picking just one seems impossible! Honestly, the proud moments come from the slew of comments and messages we receive about how our tools have impacted other people’s recovery. It brings tears to our eyes every time!
YD: If you could wave a magic wand and change one thing about your business, what would it be?
E, R, and B: Owning an office space that we could call home!
YD: Describe your brand in three words.
E, R, and B: Authentic, cozy, and simple.
YD: Love it! Now for some rapid-fire questions:
Are you a dog person or a cat person?
Rae: Dogs all day every day.
Erin: Dogs, dogs, dogs.
Brogan: Dogs for sureeee.
YD: Early bird or night owl?
Rae: Early bird!
Erin: I go back and forth on this daily.
Brogan: Early! Keep me up past 9:30 pm and I don’t function anymore.
YD: Favorite local beer?
Rae: Lately digging St. Patrick’s Tropical Beach IPA.
Erin: Is wine a beer? If so, Rosé is definitely my answer.
Brogan: I seriously try a new Sour every time I go to the store. Pearl Wine Company in Platte Park has my favorite finds. If it has a cool label, I’ll try it.
YD: What’s your best party trick?
Rae: I can do the splits!
Erin: Definitely a mean charcuterie board.
Brogan: Sneaking off to bed by 10:00 without anyone noticing.
YD: What show are you currently binging?
Rae: Vikings.
Erin: Grey’s Anatomy – for the umpteenth time.
Brogan: Breaking Bad – We are rewatching and let me tell you it’s so worth it.
YD: Any book you’re currently reading?
Rae: Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman.
Erin: Saltwater Buddha by Jaimal Yogis.
Brogan: Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey.
YD: What do you miss the most about pre-pandemic life?
Rae: Spontaneous afternoon brewery adventures with my fiancé.
Erin: Seeing a stranger smile at you as you pass them on the street.
Brogan: Really talking to strangers. I want to get to know my checkout person at Trader Joe’s again and hear all about their life story.
Thanks, you three. It has been a joy to watch your brand grow with your vision. Mental health recovery tools like yours are more important than ever in 2021. We’re cheering for you!
