Client Goals
Too Haute Cowgirls is a Colorado-born, woman-owned business responsible for creating perfectly giftable gourmet popcorn in a variety of distinctive flavors. Born out of respect for the gritty, tenacious attitudes of the women of the Wild West, Too Haute Cowgirls pays homage to the epicurean adventures the two co-founders encountered as they paved the way for women business owners like themselves.
Over the last decade, YellowDog has designed and built multiple bold branding moments for Too Haute Cowgirls, from their website to the packaging of their products to their content marketing. As a fellow woman owned business, YellowDog felt a connection to their mission of empowering women in the workplace. When they came to us, Too Haute Cowgirls was facing the challenge of gaining brand recognition in a crowded market space. They didn’t have a clear brand identity, which was crucial for them to stand out amongst their competitors. We knew we needed to saddle up and get to work.
Lucky for us, YellowDog also had a clear understanding of Too Haute Cowgirls goal: to create a customer experience that embodied the unbridled cowgirl spirit of the Wild West. A partnership was formed and we’ve never looked back.
Our Process
Logo and identity. Our process began with designing a label-worthy logo that would infuse the brand’s Western roots into anything it touched. The result was a nostalgic representation of the era Too Haute Cowgirls was paying respect to, with enough contemporary appeal to look fresh and on-trend.
Package design. Gourmet popcorn as good as this needs designer packaging. To convey this addictive snack’s premium qualities, YellowDog’s graphic designers got straight to work on branded packaging that incorporated the new logo and identity, with five color variations for the classic five popcorn flavors.
Website design and development. To bring it all together, our team of web developers created a user friendly, Shopify enabled ecommerce website, with a design that would harmonize the brand’s online and offline presences. Using the YellowDog-created branding assets, the website took on a life of its own – complete with subtle type and imagery that immediately clues customers into the brand’s quality and heritage.
Organic content marketing. When it came time for marketing Too Haute Cowgirls, YellowDog developed a content strategy to gain Too Hot Cowgirls organic visibility to shoppers looking for Western-themed gift ideas. To complement a series of text-based longform articles, YellowDog refreshed the brand’s supply of Western-themed product photography and graphics. With those, we developed supplemental Pinterest boards for extra discoverability on a highly visual social platform.
Outcomes
Just like classic Western films, YellowDog’s brand-building efforts have withstood the test of time. The logo, identity, and packaging design have been iterated upon but largely unchanged since its makeover in 2020. With ongoing improvements and upgrades, the website continues to serve as a growth engine for direct-to-consumer online sales.
YellowDog’s organic marketing efforts continue to bring in shoppers who are browsing the market for novelty Western-themed gift ideas – both on Pinterest and in generalized search. Our PR outreach efforts also yielded a feature in the industry trade publication Candy and Snack Today.
Locally crafted sweet-and-salty gourmet popcorn like Too Haute Cowgirls practically sells itself – but strong branding helps. Weaving together compelling touchpoints around the brand’s craftsmanship and heritage, YellowDog ultimately achieved its goal of building a memorable and positive brand experience—both online and offline—for Too Haute Cowgirls. We’re glad they chose us to do-si-do!
